As a Civil Estimator you will analyze bid documents and prepare quantity and cost evaluations for the civil scopes of construction projects. You will also work on the development of the execution plan and the schedule during the pre‑project phase.
District OverviewThe Kiewit Nuclear Solutions team provides construction and engineering services across North America for nuclear‑related markets, including small modular reactors and other DOE projects. Our focus is on delivering safe, cost‑effective solutions with a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities- Review RFPs to determine scope of work and estimate requirements.
- Perform quantity take‑off development from drawings, specifications, and related documentation.
- Prepare civil scope estimates covering grading, trenching, underground utilities, aggregates, temporary environmental works, pavements, stormwater piping, and structures.
- Develop estimates to support proposal creation and bid submission, including complex pricing sheets.
- Determine costs for labor, material, construction equipment, subcontractors, and other direct costs for self‑performed construction.
- Analyze crew structures for composite rate development in union, merit‑shop, and prevailing‑wage markets.
- Become a subject‑matter expert with InEight Estimating software.
- Align bid packages to proposal requirements before issuance to subcontractors and vendors.
- Evaluate Quote Comparison Sheets after receiving subcontractor and vendor pricing.
- Serve as the basis for the construction plan after project award.
- Follow procedures set by the Civil Estimate Manager and Lead Estimators.
- Participate in estimate review process with internal and external team members.
- Assist with customer presentation preparation as needed.
- Analyze past costs from ongoing and completed projects to determine project successes and improvement areas.
- Assist with project initiation by conforming the estimate while working with business, project controls, and the production team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Technology, or equivalent extensive experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in heavy industrial construction.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines.
- Professional interaction with supervisors, employees, and team members.
- Ability to perform work safely and follow instructions and safety policies.
- Flexibility to work normal operating hours and overtime as required.
- Willingness to work at various locations and conditions.
