Job Summary
The Adjunct Band Director / Music Instructor is a part‑time position responsible for directing instrumental ensembles and teaching music courses within the Sheridan College music program. Primary responsibilities include leading the Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble, teaching composition courses and applied music lessons, and supporting student growth through performance and individualized instruction. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong musicianship, effective teaching practices, and a commitment to student engagement and community involvement.
Responsibilities- Direct and conduct the Symphony Band and Jazz Ensemble, including rehearsals and performances.
- Prepare students for performances, concerts, festivals, and community events.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant content area from an accredited institution is required.
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant content area is preferred.
- Experience conducting instrumental ensembles.
- Experience directing both concert and jazz ensembles is preferred.
- Ability to effectively rehearse and conduct instrumental ensembles.
- Knowledge of instrumental pedagogy, repertoire, and rehearsal techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and community partners.
- Commitment to student success and music education accessibility.
This part‑time adjunct position may include daytime, evening, and occasional weekend rehearsals or performances based on program needs.
