Overview
Brown v. Board of Education National Historical Park preserves and shares the history of the 1954 Supreme Court decision that ended legal school segregation. Opened in 2004 in Topeka, the park is expanding to Summerton and includes five affiliated “Brown Five” sites across Kansas, South Carolina, Delaware, Virginia, and Washington, DC—communities whose cases shaped the landmark ruling. Located in Kansas’s capital city, about 30 miles from Lawrence and 60 miles from Kansas City, Topeka offers an affordable cost of living, a strong sense of community, and access to cultural, sports, and entertainment opportunities.
