Job Summary

Library District #1 Miami County Kansas, situated in Louisburg, Kansas, seeks a dynamic, innovative, and passionate leader to serve as Library Director. The Director, under the direction of the Board of Trustees, is the chief executive officer of the library and oversees the library’s strategic planning, administrative and management operations, staff, finances, facilities, budgeting, compliance, programs, collections, technology, outreach, and marketing.

The director must also lead training, motivation, and professional development of staff and volunteers.

The Director is accountable for the day‑to‑day operations and long‑term vision of the library, including governance, budgeting, program development, public relations, and technology strategy. The role requires strong leadership, effective communication with Board of Trustees and community partners, and a commitment to advancing library services and outreach initiatives.

Will consider candidates with a Bachelor’s or graduate degree relevant to library science, management, or administration. Preference may be given to those with a Master’s degree in library science. Candidates working toward a Master’s degree and making satisfactory progress will also be considered.

Three-plus years of progressively responsible professional library experience required. Preference for substantial experience in library operations, budget development and implementation, personnel management, and program development. Experience working with a board of directors and establishing community and municipal relationships is desirable.

This full‑time, exempt position offers a starting salary of $63,000 per year, dependent on education and experience. Benefits include paid health insurance, a robust retirement plan, and paid time off.
