The Role

As an Apprenticeship Skills Coach
, you will play a pivotal role in supporting engineering and manufacturing apprentices throughout their learning journey. You will provide structured guidance, coaching and encouragement to ensure apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to succeed in their programme and progress confidently into industry.

You will act as the bridge between academic learning and workplace application, working closely with employers to ensure apprentices are supported, challenged and meeting all requirements of their apprenticeship standard.

You will also contribute to the development of new curriculum content, ensuring it reflects real industry practice and enhances the learner experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of engineering and manufacturing apprentices.
  • Monitor the health, safety and welfare of apprentices in the workplace.
  • Provide end‑to‑end information, advice and guidance on skills development, End Point Assessment (EPA) and career progression.
  • Monitor and record progress against apprenticeship standards, ensuring apprentices develop the required knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • Conduct regular documented progress reviews with apprentices and employers in line with funding rules.
  • Monitor off‑the‑job training records and ensure compliance.
  • Complete funding/MIS documentation such as Breaks in Learning and withdrawals in a timely manner.
  • Plan and complete assessments of competence and development qualifications.
  • Assess apprentices’ knowledge, skills and behaviours and create action plans for improvement where required.
  • Use coaching methods to help apprentices apply learning effectively in the workplace.
  • Build strong relationships with apprentices and employers to support timely completion.
  • Provide regular caseload progress updates to the Leadership Team.
  • Collaborate with Business Development colleagues to identify repeat and new business opportunities.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Strong engineering background (mechanical, electrical, electronic or multi‑skilled preferred).
  • Understanding of assessment methods and techniques.
  • Understanding of coaching methods and learner development.
  • Knowledge of engineering apprenticeship standards.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship funding rules.
  • Understanding of End Point Assessment processes.
  • Understanding of Safeguarding and the Prevent Duty.
  • Experience using e‑portfolios (ideally Smart Assessor).
  • Experience using learner management systems such as Pro Monitor (desirable).
Qualifications Essential
  • Level 3 Engineering qualification.
  • Recognised teaching qualification or willingness to gain one.
  • Recognised assessor qualification (A1 or Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement).
Desirable
  • Functional Skills Level 2 / GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in Maths and English.
  • Recognised Quality Assurance qualification (V1 or Level 4 IQA).
  • Recognised coaching qualification.
  • Higher‑level engineering qualification (Level 4+).
  • Digital training qualifications (e.g., Microsoft Learn badges).
Safeguarding & Vetting

The successful candidate must complete safeguarding and Prevent training promptly and contribute actively to our safeguarding culture, supporting the Designated Safeguarding Lead and wider safeguarding team. Adherence to our Code of Conduct and commitment to the welfare of children is essential.
