KNS has an opening for a mid‑career operational estimator in our growing team. You will be part of a rapidly expanding nuclear market that includes civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. This role supports quantity takeoffs, project status, change orders, and work package development.
LocationThis position is based at one of KNS’s office locations:
Lenexa, KS;
Oak Ridge, TN;
Aiken, SC; or Idaho Falls, potential locations include Denver, CO and Houston, TX.
- Review, analyze, and interpret Contract Documents (RFP, specifications, etc.).
- Perform all tasks related to quantity takeoff and pricing of design‑build projects in the nuclear market.
- Support work package scoping and development.
- Coordinate with estimators and engineers/designer to provide constructability input and value engineering for preliminary project plans.
- Participate in the planning process, brainstorming, and working sessions with estimators and engineers/designer.
- Identify, quantify, and communicate risk throughout the estimating process.
- Perform site visits and investigations as needed.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in estimating and quantity takeoffs.
- Proficiency in one core discipline.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Strong mathematical and computer skills.
- Must be able to meet deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail with ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Role requires a facility‑specific clearance that requires U.S. citizenship.
- Regular, reliable attendance.
- Work productively and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others, individually or in a team environment.
- Perform work safely and effectively, understanding and following oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines; overtime and weekends may be required.
- Field roles only; may work at various locations and conditions may vary.
This position may require working on an active construction site.
CompensationBase Compensation: $95,000/yr – $99,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to factors such as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
