Job Overview
Henderson Engineers is seeking an Electrical Design Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers and designers in our dedicated client line. The role combines technical leadership with people management, ensuring high-quality design solutions and continuous improvement across projects.
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field (high school diploma or GED required).
- Minimum 12 years of progressive experience.
- Expert knowledge of engineering design, industry codes, standards, and design guides.
- Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, construction processes, Revit, and Bluebeam Revu.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and applicable design software.
- Demonstrated history of building trust-based relationships and fostering collaboration.
- High emotional intelligence and ability to lead with empathy, clarity, and constructive feedback.
- Interest in mentoring and developing others.
- Strong technical aptitude for learning systems and training others.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with designers at all levels.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Team-oriented and ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Adaptability to changing priorities and environments.
- Ability to prioritize, execute, and direct multiple tasks in a dynamic setting.
- Self‑starter, proactive, trustworthy, and capable of handling sensitive information.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Additional certifications such as BEMP, CPD, CDP, NICET, RCDD.
- Sustainability certifications (CDP, LEED, WELL).
- Experience as Engineer of Record (EOR).
- Lead, manage, and mentor a discipline‑aligned team, fostering a high‑performance culture.
- Act as a hiring manager and career coach, conducting interviews and providing performance guidance.
- Participate in project scheduling to align staff assignments with scopes and monitor progress.
- Conduct hands‑on coaching and individual meetings to support goal setting.
- Assist sector leaders in establishing goals, policies, and standards at the practice level.
- Champion technical directives and facilitate upward feedback.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally for staff resource and budget management.
- Improve project and design quality through the internal review process and check‑ins.
- Serve as a technical resource, applying Henderson’s design guidelines and standards.
- Oversee project coordination activities—emails, scope, schedule, client meetings, quality, and delivery.
- Foster a client‑centric mindset throughout the team.
- Proactively share information, updates, and process improvement ideas.
- Direct and oversee preparation of design documents, system layouts, drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Lead projects from concept design through completion.
- Review shop drawings for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Research and recommend feasible systems or equipment; evaluate product suitability.
- Develop solutions to complex engineering problems or design challenges.
- Ensure drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
- Communicate with clients to define requirements and scope.
- Maintain proactive communication throughout the project cycle.
- Respond to client and architect inquiries; act as a reference point for information.
- Visit job sites to verify conditions and monitor progress.
- Resolve conflicts involving owners, architects, and contractors as needed.
- Identify and close gaps in industry or discipline knowledge continuously.
- Share emerging technologies, industry trends, and updates on codes and standards.
- Maintain higher standards associated with PE licensing and EOR responsibilities, ensuring quality and accountability.
- Possibly serve as Engineer of Record, overseeing signing and sealing of projects.
