Contract Metallurgist – Concentrator OptimizationImplementation Engineers is seeking an experienced plant-based metallurgist or mineral processing engineer to support a 20-week onsite engagement at a large North American mining operation in the Upper Midwest. This assignment focuses on improving circuit recovery, throughput stability, and overall concentrator performance.
This is a hands‑on role working directly with operations and technical teams inside an active processing plant environment.
Start: Early May
Duration: ~20 weeks
Location: Upper Midwest (onsite Monday–Friday required)
You will support concentrator performance improvement initiatives across grinding and separation circuits, including:
- Evaluating grinding and flotation performance
- Identifying recovery improvement opportunities
- Interpreting metallurgical operating data and trends
- Troubleshooting circuit bottlenecks and instability
- Supporting plant trials and parameter adjustments
- Collaborating with operators, supervisors, and technical leadership
- Delivering practical, implementation‑ready recommendations
We are seeking candidates with plant-level concentrator experience
, especially in:
- Iron ore beneficiation
- Grinding and classification circuits
- Thickening / filtration / dewatering
- Metallurgical accounting
- Recovery improvement programs
Experience working directly inside operating concentrators is strongly preferred.
Required Qualifications- 10+ years mineral processing / concentrator experience
- Experience supporting active plant operations (not lab‑only)
- Strong understanding of comminution and separation circuits
- Demonstrated recovery improvement or throughput optimization work
- Ability to analyze operating data and translate into actionable changes
- Comfortable working onsite with plant teams
- Iron ore concentrator experience
- Flotation optimization background
- Process modeling (JKSimMet, Met Sim, or similar)
- Commissioning or ramp‑up support experience
- Prior consulting or multi‑site troubleshooting experience
One of the following:
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Chemical Engineering (with concentrator experience)
- Mining Engineering (with processing specialization)
Advanced degrees are welcome but not required.
Travel RequirementCandidates must be available onsite in the Upper Midwest Monday–Friday for approximately 20 weeks
