You will support construction projects by ensuring that materials meet specified standards, accurately documenting test results, and communicating findings to project stakeholders. This position offers a mix of field, office, and laboratory work within a collaborative civil engineering environment.

* Conduct laboratory testing of construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
* Communicate clearly and professionally with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders regarding site conditions, project requirements, and testing, observation, and inspection procedures and results.
* Transport material samples from job sites to the laboratory, ensuring all samples are properly labeled and accompanied by accurate identifying documentation.
* Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in the form of written and digital reports, providing timely daily updates to the project manager.
* Maintain, clean, and organize testing equipment, vehicles, and work areas to ensure they remain in safe and reliable working condition.
* Assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to project sites as needed to support project workload and timelines.

* Experience with concrete testing and concrete inspection.
* Experience with soil testing and aggregate testing.
* Experience with asphalt testing.
* Experience using nuclear density gauges or nuclear gauges (including NUKE GAUGE) for field compaction testing.
* Degree in civil engineering or a related degree required.
* Ability to work comfortably and safely outdoors in varying weather conditions.
* Clean driving record and ability to safely operate company vehicles.
* Knowledge of civil engineering principles related to materials testing and construction.
* Ability to prepare clear written and digital reports documenting test procedures and results.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to following established testing and safety procedures.
Work Environment
This position involves approximately 75% field work and 25% office and laboratory work. Testing is primarily conducted at job sites, where you will perform on-site materials testing and observation, followed by documentation and reporting in the office. Some laboratory testing is completed in a dedicated materials lab located in Lenexa. You will work within a medium-sized civil engineering firm as part of a small materials group, typically in teams of 1-3 people depending on project requirements.
The culture emphasizes a strong "can do" attitude, where team members stay engaged and find productive tasks even when project work slows. The field environment requires working outdoors in various weather conditions and traveling to different construction sites. The office and lab environments are structured and equipment-focused, supporting detailed testing and reporting activities. The dress code in the field typically includes boots and jeans, along with company-provided attire as appropriate for safety and identification.
