Designer and Drafter / Engineering Technician
Job Description
This role serves as a key technical resource responsible for providing engineering, product, and installation information required to successfully execute new and reconstruction cooling tower projects. The Designer and Drafter / Engineering Technician prepares detailed installation and fabrication drawings, supports field activities, and contributes to the design and development of cooling tower components using AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilities
+ Generate accurate and detailed installation drawings for cooling tower projects under supervision.
+ Create fabrication drawings for basic cooling tower components, ensuring clarity and constructability.
+ Prepare complete and accurate bills of materials to support procurement and construction activities.
+ Assist with resolving field problems by interpreting drawings, clarifying design intent, and providing technical information.
+ Support the design and development of new cooling tower components and improvements to existing designs.
+ Participate in cooling tower inspections as required, documenting findings and supporting follow-up engineering work.
+ Collaborate and communicate effectively with engineering, construction, and field personnel to ensure project requirements are met.
+ Apply structural, mechanical, and materials detailing skills to produce practical, buildable designs.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, templates, and documentation practices.
Essential Skills
+ 0-3 years of experience in detailing and application of structural, mechanical, and materials-related detailing skills.
+ Proficiency with AutoCAD for creating and modifying engineering and fabrication drawings.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for organizing data, bills of materials, and technical information.
+ Ability to produce accurate and complete drawings that clearly convey design intent.
+ Ability to prepare accurate and complete bills of materials.
+ Strong communication skills to cooperate effectively with engineering, construction, and field personnel.
+ Basic understanding of practical construction and assembly of products.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Product experience in cooling tower design is preferred but not required.
+ Experience working with various materials of construction, including lumber, fiberglass, steel, and concrete, is a plus.
+ Hands-on experience with practical construction and assembly of products.
+ Willingness and ability to travel as required for inspections or field support.
+ Interest in learning about cooling tower systems and evaporative cooling applications across power generation, industrial, refrigeration, and HVAC markets.
Work Environment
The role operates within a specialized engineering and manufacturing environment focused on the design, fabrication, and construction of field-erected cooling towers and related aftermarket services. You will primarily work in an office or engineering setting using AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel to develop drawings and documentation, while collaborating closely with engineering, project, and field teams. Some travel to job sites may be required to support cooling tower inspections, field problem resolution, and project execution.
The organization provides solutions to customers in power generation, industrial, refrigeration, and HVAC evaporative cooling markets, and supports both new installations and replacement or reconstruction projects, as well as aftermarket services including replacement parts.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lenexa, KS.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
