Structural Designer- Nuclear Solutions

Position Overview

The Structural Estimator is responsible for material takeoffs, cost analysis, preparation and presentation of discipline estimates to leadership and stakeholders for large and complex projects. The role also includes maintaining historical databases and assisting in the development of department procedures and targeted markets such as nuclear, DOE and DOD contracts.

The position is located in Lenexa, KS. Other locations may be considered.

• Develop high quality CAD designs and drawings for estimates and projects based on engineering information and experience.
• Coordinate with other estimating and design group team members to review and exchange project information necessary for design and development.
• Check designs for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
• Report task progress to Estimate or Project Lead.
• Gather required information and collaborate with engineers and multiple disciplines to develop BIM models for foundations and steel structures.
• Leverage Building Information Modeling (BIM) to create plans, drawings and details.
• Aid in the development of department standards and tools.
• Mentor other team members in design and modeling techniques.
• Resolve design issues effectively with input from responsible engineer.
• Relies on experience to develop preliminary concrete and steel models for estimating purposes.

• Completion of a vocational training program in Computer Aided Design and 5+ years of structural design experience using Tekla or Revit.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret multi‑discipline engineering and vendor documents.
• Displays leadership and confidence to monitor peers, especially those with less experience in drafting and design.
• Basic knowledge of the latest computer operating systems.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Navisworks for design and clash detection, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• DOE and Commercial Nuclear experience preferred but not required.
• US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Professional manner when representing Kiewit Engineering & Design Co. to external contacts.
• Seeks and uses feedback effectively.

Base Compensation: $133,000/yr - $139,000/yr (Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location).
