The City Of Lenexa Is Currently Accepting Applications For a Motivated Right-of-Way Technician I Or II To Work Out Of Our Community Development Department. The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Enjoy working in the field and seeing infrastructure projects progress from start to finish

This position generally works office hours Monday through Friday with flexibility for overtime.
Job SummaryThe Right-of-Way Technician I or II is responsible for assisting the Right-of-Way Manager in all aspects of maintaining the integrity of the City's right-of-way. This position will coordinate utility companies' work in the right-of-way through excavation permitting and inspection. The Right-of-Way Technician II will complete the same responsibilities as the Technician I, but will additional levels of independent work and less oversight.
The Technician II will also coordinate utility relocations for Capital Improvement Program projects and investigate violations of excavation requirements.
- Assists in administering the excavation permitting system. This includes reviewing and issuing permits and simple database maintenance.
- Performs field inspections of permitted excavation work with minimal direction and guidance.
- Ensures that requirements for traffic and work‑zone safety are met during right-of-way excavation with minimal direction and guidance.
- Reviews utility and construction plans for accuracy and conformity to City standards; performs research to locate property owners, property lines and easements with direction and guidance.
- Performs final inspections and warranty inspections.
- Performs data entry and maintains files, records and reports of right-of-way activities.
- Addresses property owner inquiries and meets with affected property owners as needed.
- Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.
This position requires the ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions and potentially hazardous environments. This position requires the ability to walk/climb over difficult and uneven terrain to make inspections; the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs. from the knee to waist; the ability to hear warning alarms and signals; visual acuity and the ability to distinguish color to inspect projects.
Qualifications- Technician I: minimum 2‑3 years of work experience related to roadway/utility construction of inspection plus Associate's Degree in civil engineering technology, business, planning or related field.
- Technician II: minimum 5‑6 years of work experience related to roadway/utility construction of inspection plus Associate's Degree in civil engineering technology, business, planning or related field.
Compensation is determined based on directly related experience and qualifications. This is a non‑exempt position and is eligible for overtime pay. Compensation ranges are as follows:
- Technician I: $25.13 - $29.14 per hour
- Technician II: $27.29 - $31.64 per hour
