Senior Commissioning Manager

(Location TBD): Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning and startup activities for large-scale power generation projects. This leadership role is responsible for developing and executing commissioning strategies, overseeing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring the safe, efficient, and successful transition of facilities from construction through operational readiness. The ideal candidate has extensive commissioning and startup experience within power generation environments, strong technical expertise, and a proven ability to deliver complex projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.

Essential Duties:
  • Lead all commissioning and startup (CSU) activities throughout the project lifecycle, serving as the senior commissioning authority on site.
  • Develop and execute commissioning strategies, project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Direct multidisciplinary commissioning teams supporting electrical, controls, mechanical, process, utility, safety, fire and gas, and auxiliary systems.
  • Establish system boundaries, turnover plans, commissioning scopes, and operational readiness milestones.
  • Collaborate with project management, engineering, construction teams, vendors, subcontractors, and owners to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership during design reviews, operability reviews, construction meetings, and commissioning activities.
  • Develop, review, and approve commissioning procedures, startup protocols, testing plans, and turnover documentation.
  • Oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, preservation, maintenance, testing, and final system turnover activities.
  • Coordinate commissioning tests, evaluate results, troubleshoot issues, and verify systems meet operational and performance requirements.
  • Manage commissioning documentation, drawing updates, turnover packages, and commissioning databases.
  • Ensure required spare parts, consumables, and operational support resources are available for startup activities.
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with OSHA, ANSI, environmental, and project-specific safety standards.
  • Lead daily safety meetings, field audits, lockout/tagout (LOTO) activities, and critical milestone reviews.
  • Monitor commissioning budgets, forecast project costs, and manage commissioning‑related labor and resource allocations.
  • Mentor and develop commissioning personnel while coordinating additional field resources as project demands require.
  • Identify project risks, implement mitigation strategies, and provide regular progress updates to project leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements/

Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Commissioning and Startup (CSU) experience, including prior experience in a senior commissioning leadership role.
  • Extensive knowledge of commissioning methodologies, startup planning, system turnover, and operational readiness processes.
  • Demonstrated success leading large multidisciplinary teams on complex industrial or power generation projects.
  • Experience developing commissioning schedules, budgets, procedures, execution plans, and project documentation.
  • Strong understanding of power industry safety standards, OSHA regulations, and commissioning best practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, procedures, P&IDs, and construction documentation.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and commissioning documentation systems.
  • Preferred:
    • 10+ years supporting power generation or large industrial projects.
    • Experience with Combined Cycle, Simple Cycle, or other thermal power generation facilities.
    • Knowledge of plant operations, process technologies, flow measurement systems, and engineering calculations.
    • Experience with PLC‑based and PC‑based control systems, automation platforms, and commissioning software.
