Job Overview

Position:
Patient Access Specialist, entry level.

Location:

MWHC - Stafford Hospital, Stafford, VA. Onsite required.

Compensation: $17.00 - $18.15 per hour based on experience.

• Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, provide patient instructions, collect insurance information.
• Receive and process physician orders, utilize overlay tool, maintain excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.
• Operate telephone switchboard for incoming/outgoing calls.
• Adhere to policies, provide compassionate service.
• Meet point of service goals.
• Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to correct accounts, conduct audits and provide statistical data.
• Pre-register patient accounts, obtain demographics, insurance, and financial liabilities, collect point‑of‑service collections and past‑due balances, and offer payment plans.
• Explain consent for treatment forms, obtain signatures and witness names.
• Distribute education documents (e.g., Medicare, Tricare, MOON form).
• Review eligibility responses in insurance verification system, select applicable insurance plan code, enter benefit data to support POS and billing for clean claim rate.
• Screen medical necessity using ABN software, inform Medicare patients of possible non‑payment, distribute ABN as appropriate.
• Distribute and document other designated forms and pamphlets.

• Minimum 1 year of customer service experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Openness to innovation and willingness to explore AI processes.

• Hourly pay $17.00 – $18.15 with bonus incentives.
