PAR Electrical Contractors, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Payroll Manager to lead and oversee all payroll operations across a multi-state workforce. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing for salaried, hourly, union, and field employees.
The Payroll Manager will play a critical role in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including prevailing wage and union agreements where applicable. This position partners closely with HR, Finance, and Operations to ensure payroll accuracy, reporting integrity, and continuous process improvement.
What You ll Do Payroll Operations & Compliance- Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a multi-state workforce (weekly and biweekly cycles).
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, union agreements, and prevailing wage requirements.
- Oversee payroll tax filings, W-2s, 1099s, and related regulatory reporting.
- Manage garnishments, deductions, benefits integration, and timekeeping systems.
- Lead, mentor, and develop payroll team members.
- Establish internal controls to safeguard payroll accuracy and confidentiality.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert for payroll-related inquiries and audits.
- Optimize payroll systems and workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Partner with HRIS and Finance teams to ensure proper integration of payroll, benefits, and accounting systems.
- Evaluate and implement system upgrades or enhancements as needed.
- Develop reporting dashboards and metrics for leadership.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and ensure accurate general ledger postings.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Provide payroll forecasting and labor cost reporting to Finance and Operations teams.
- Collaborate with HR on onboarding, terminations, and compensation changes.
- Support field operations with timekeeping and job cost tracking.
- Provide guidance to leadership on payroll compliance risks and policy updates.
- 7+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
- Experience managing multi-state payroll, preferably in construction, electrical contracting, or industrial services.
- Knowledge of union payroll, prevailing wage, and certified payroll reporting strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll tax laws, FLSA regulations, and compliance standards.
- Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, Workday, or similar).
- JDE Experience, a plus
- Experience integrating timekeeping systems with payroll platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, reconciliations, reporting).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex payroll topics clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to lead change and improve processes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
