Job Description & How to Apply Below
Mill Machinist / CNC Programmer
This role combines hands-on CNC mill setup and operation with CNC programming responsibilities in a climate-controlled hydraulic manifold manufacturing environment. You will program and set up CNC milling machines, support continuous improvement of machining processes, and ensure high-quality parts are produced on schedule while working closely with programmers, machinists, and leadership.
Responsibilities- Set up, maintain, and assist in the operation of CNC milling machines to meet production requirements.
- Develop project documentation (routings) and machine code using applications such as Master Cam, Vericut, Solidworks, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Troubleshoot programming and machining issues, identify root causes, and recommend effective solutions to improve processes and quality.
- Collaborate directly with programmers rather than only taking direction, providing input and support on programming and machining strategies.
- Monitor the quality of parts produced during the shift and ensure they meet all specifications and tolerances.
- Meet production deadlines while maintaining consistent quality standards and adherence to routing and standard work instructions.
- Set up machining centers according to standard work instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Produce in-tolerance setup pieces and adjust programs or setups as needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Follow temporary manufacturing deviation request (TMDR) procedures when changes are required and ensure proper documentation.
- Decommission machines after operations, including proper shutdown and cleanup according to SOPs.
- Build and tear down tooling as needed and inspect tooling for wear, notifying supervision and supporting organized, clean tool crib practices.
- Load parts on machines according to standard work instructions using best practices and established SOPs.
- Inspect parts in process according to standard work instructions, using appropriate inspection methods and tools to verify conformance.
- Stop machines and notify supervision when non-conforming material is detected, tag material with defect descriptions, and contain and sort all additional non-conforming material according to SOP.
- Deburr parts according to standard work instructions and visually inspect for abnormal conditions or defects.
- Work in a team environment to achieve production goals, including running and cleaning multiple machines as directed.
- Communicate with supervisors when direction is unclear and work with peers to maintain production schedules and achieve shared objectives.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities, including developing best practices for work holding, tooling, and machining processes.
- Document and maintain tool inventory to support efficient and reliable machine setups.
- Experience as a machinist with CNC milling machines, including setup and operation.
- Hands-on CNC programming experience, including knowledge of G-code and M-code.
- Experience with CMM-related programming or inspection processes.
- Recent experience using Master Cam for programming CNC equipment.
- Recent experience using Vericut to verify programs and machining operations.
- Recent experience using Solidworks for CAD/CAM or model-based programming.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products for documentation and routing development.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with inspection tools such as micrometers and other precision measuring instruments.
- Knowledge of standard machining practices for mills, lathes, and manual machining operations.
- Ability to follow standard work instructions, SOPs, and TMDR procedures accurately.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for both programming and machining issues.
- Ability to monitor and maintain part quality throughout production runs.
- Capability to work independently with minimal micro-management while meeting clear production deadlines.
- Comfort working in a small to medium-sized machine shop environment and collaborating with a team of operators, machinists, and leads.
Skills & Qualifications
- Formal technical school training in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with CAD/CAM workflows, including integration between Solidworks and Master Cam.
- Familiarity with control platforms such as Haas, Okuma, and Fanuc is beneficial.
- Experience working with hydraulic manifold components or similar precision machined products.
- Experience in using in-process inspection methods and documenting non-conforming material.
- Experience running multiple machines simultaneously in a production environment.
- Comfort working with both manual and CNC equipment in a machine shop setting.
- Ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on tooling, work holding, and process optimization.
- Strong communication skills for working with supervisors, peers, and cross-functional teams.
You will join a laid-back, supportive machine shop environment…
