** ASSISTANT CATTLE MANAGER
** Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is seeking an
** Assistant Cattle Manager
** for a progressive, family-operated cattle operation in Kansas. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced cattleman who enjoys hands-on cow/calf work and wants to take on meaningful responsibility within a growing cattle operation.
** This is not strictly a feedyard position and it is not a farming position.
** The employer is looking for a true cattle person who can recognize a sick animal, handle calving problems, process and treat cattle, feed when necessary, and be trusted to independently check cattle and follow through with the job.
The cattle program utilizes extensive grazing opportunities, including wheat pasture, CRP, corn and milo stalks, Sudan grass, and other available forage. Cattle may be located at several grazing locations, with the majority concentrated within approximately 20 miles of the home operation. This position will work closely with ownership and the owner's son. The right individual will have considerable day-to-day responsibility but must also be comfortable following established cattle-health, calving, feeding, and reproductive protocols.

** QUALIFICATIONS
* *** Must Have:
*** Strong cow/calf and general cattle experience
* Excellent cattle-health skills with the ability to recognize sick or compromised cattle early
* Calving experience, including the ability to identify problems and assist/pull calves when necessary
* Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned cattle
* Experience operating feed trucks, loaders, pickups, UTVs, and general cattle equipment
* Ability to safely gather, process, vaccinate, and treat cattle
* Strong work ethic with excellent attendance and dependability
* Honest, accountable, and willing to communicate problems when they arise
* Ability to follow established protocols and management direction
* Willingness to work additional or irregular hours during calving and severe weather when livestock needs require it
** Preferred:
*** AI and synchronization experience
* Embryo-transfer or recipient-cow program experience
* Registered Angus or seedstock experience
* Back grounding/feedlot experience
* Experience managing cattle on wheat pasture, crop residue, CRP, or other extensive grazing situations
* Temporary electric/hot-wire fencing experience
* Dart-gun treatment experience
* Mechanical aptitude and ability to handle basic facility repairs
* Semi and livestock-hauling experience
* Horseback and roping ability

Horseback experience is a plus but
** is NOT required**. The operation handles and checks the majority of its cattle with UTVs/Can-Am Defenders and strategically located cattle-handling facilities. The employer puts up a significant amount of silage annually; however,
** this position is being hired for cattle responsibilities, not primarily for farming or silage harvest**. Seasonal and additional help is utilized for much of the silage operation. The operation is also expanding its involvement with
** registered Angus genetics, artificial insemination, embryo transfer, donor cows, and recipient females**.
The right individual could become increasingly involved with:
* AI synchronization protocols
* Processing and vaccination schedules
* Recipient-cow management
* Embryo pregnancies
* Registered Angus cattle
* High-value replacement females
* Intensive calving management

This operation is looking for someone who considers himself a
** cattleman first**. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to become an important part of a substantial family cattle operation and potentially take on increasing responsibility as ownership begins transitioning more of the daily workload to trusted employees.
** BENEFITS
* * Housing, Work Vehicle, Health Insurance after 6 months, Beef after 6 months
** ALL INQUIRIES ARE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL. NO FEES TO APPLICANTS.
