Product / Service Engineer (Pre-Sales Engineer)
We are seeking an experienced Payroll and HCM professional to join our team as a Product / Service Engineer (internally titled Pre‑Sales Engineer). This role bridges the gap between prospect business requirements and our technical payroll and HCM solutions.
The ideal candidate combines deep payroll and compliance knowledge with strong business and technical acumen. You will partner closely with Sales leadership to drive technical discovery, deliver customized demonstrations, validate solution fit, and support complex opportunities through close.
This is a highly collaborative, customer‑facing role that plays a critical part in revenue growth and value realization.
Key Responsibilities Pre‑Sales Responsibilities- Serve as the technical subject matter expert during the sales cycle.
- Deliver customized, consultative demonstrations of:
- Apex HCM solutions
- Accountants World product suite
- myPay Solutions offerings
- Partner with Sales Representatives and Sales Managers to develop and execute opportunity strategies.
- Participate in key stages of the sales process, including:
- Discovery calls
- Technical demos
- Post-demo Q&A sessions
- Proposal reviews
- Objection handling and negotiation
- Conduct pre-demo preparation and post-demo debrief sessions with Sales.
- Translate prospect payroll, tax, and compliance requirements into tailored solution presentations.
- Provide proof-of-concept validation when needed.
- Liaise internally with Onboarding, Training, Support, Operations, and Product teams to gather technical answers and ensure accurate positioning.
- Provide technical scenario consultations for new customers during their first year, as needed.
- Support proper solution positioning in partnership with Sales, Onboarding, Training, Support, and Product teams.
- Participate in ongoing product training and cross‑functional education sessions.
- Contribute feedback from the field to improve product positioning and messaging.
The Pre‑Sales Engineer will typically engage in:
- 100% of Apex HCM opportunities
- Accountants World opportunities at defined deal thresholds
- myPay Solutions opportunities at defined client thresholds
- Additional opportunities at Sales Manager discretion
- 5+ years of experience in Payroll, HCM, or Workforce Management solutions.
- Strong understanding of:
- Federal, State, and Local payroll tax compliance
- Payroll processing workflows
- HCM systems and integrations
- Experience supporting SaaS or technology‑based payroll solutions.
- Proven ability to conduct professional software demonstrations.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical functionality into business value.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to collaborate cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced sales environment.
- Experience working in a pre‑sales, solutions consultant, or sales engineering capacity.
- Prior experience with Apex HCM, Accountants World, or similar payroll platforms.
- Background supporting accounting firms or multi‑client payroll environments.
- CRM and sales cycle management experience.
- Demos conducted per week

Specific targets will be defined in alignment with Sales Leadership.
