The Lead A/V Installation Technician is responsible for executing and overseeing the installation, wiring, configuration, and testing of integrated audio, video, and control systems. This role requires advanced technical knowledge, strong leadership, and the ability to coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients. You will be the on‑site authority ensuring that systems are installed to spec, on schedule, and with exceptional quality.
PrimaryResponsibilities Project Leadership
- Serve as the on‑site lead for installation crews, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow
- Communicate daily with project managers regarding progress, issues, and material needs
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional job site
- Coordinate with general contractors, electricians, IT teams, and other trades
- Install and mount displays, projectors, screens, speakers, microphones, cameras, and video walls
- Build, wire, and dress equipment racks to industry standards
- Pull, terminate, label, and test structured cabling (CAT6, fiber, speaker wire, control cabling, etc.)
- Install and configure DSPs, control processors, network switches, and AV‑over‑IP systems
- Perform system commissioning, including audio tuning, video calibration, and control system verification
- Diagnose and resolve complex system issues on‑site
- Perform signal flow testing and verification
- Work with engineering teams to resolve design or programming discrepancies
- Document issues and corrective actions clearly and accurately
- Provide professional, courteous communication with clients and end‑users
- Conduct system demonstrations and user training sessions
- Ensure client satisfaction before project closeout
- Update as‑built drawings, cable schedules, and rack elevations
- Complete daily job logs, punch lists, and reports
- Track inventory, tools, and materials for each project
- 4+ years of professional A/V installation experience
- Proven experience leading installation teams or acting as a senior technician
- Strong understanding of A/V signal types, routing, and system architecture
- Proficiency with cable termination and testing (CAT6, fiber, HDMI, XLR, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, schematics, and signal flow diagrams
- Familiarity with control and DSP platforms such as Crestron, Extron, Q‑SYS, Biamp, Shure, and Dante, etc.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, PoE, managed switches)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work on ladders/lifts, and operate power tools safely
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- AVIXA CTS, CTS‑I, or CTS‑D certification
- Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, Q‑SYS, Biamp, Shure, Dante, etc.)
- OSHA 10/30 certification
- Experience with AV‑over‑IP systems (NVX, Q‑SYS NV, SDVoE, etc.)
- Experience in commercial construction environments
- High School Diploma/GED
