Automotive Mechanic, Automotive Technician, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
** For the first week, you will be training on M-F (8am-4pm). The Following week will begin the ongoing schedule**
We are hiring repair mechanics to maintain our fleet of electric scooters! This role is great for mechanically-inclined professionals to work directly with the operations side of our business. Bird offers industry-leading benefits and a fun work environment. As a Bird mechanic you will be encouraged to do your best work!
You will work with the latest electric scooter hardware, from routing repairs, diagnosing new issues, to rebuilds.
Qualifications:
- Prior technical/repair experience (1 year preferred)
- Problem-solving mindset
- Ability to lift 50-70 lb scooters (with or without accommodation)
- A smartphone and comfortable with mobile apps
- Must be results oriented & a team player
Mobile Device Requirement:
- This role requires the use of a personal smartphone (iPhone or Android) throughout every shift. Candidates
must have a reliable mobile device capable of downloading and running the following work applications:
- Bird Operational App — Used to scan vehicles, run inspections (pass/fail each component), log repairs,
and confirm completed work via QR/barcode scan
- Slack — Primary team communication platform; used for reporting parts shortages, repair blockers, shift
updates, and coordination with drivers and management
- Candidates who do not have a working smartphone with adequate storage and data will not be able to perform
this role.
Communication Expectations:
- Communication is not optional — it is a core function of this role. Bird Mechanics are expected to be responsive, proactive, and accurate. Repair logs drive parts forecasting, labor planning, and fleet health reporting. If something is not logged, it did not happen.
- Respond to Slack messages promptly
- Flag parts shortages or repair blockers immediately — do not wait until end of shift
• Report any vehicles that cannot be repaired with reason and QR code
- Communicate with drivers when vehicles are cleared and ready for deployment
Daily Performance Standards:
- 2 repairs per hour minimum (target throughput)
- 100% of completed repairs accurately logged in the system
- All inspections completed with pass/fail on every component section
- Book time tracked per repair for labor forecasting
Core Responsibilities:
- Inspect — Scan vehicles via the Inspection menu. Pass or fail each component section (Fork,
Battery-Brain-Display, etc.). A failed inspection automatically triggers the repair workflow.
- Diagnose — Identify root cause of failures. Determine whether the vehicle needs parts, can be repaired
immediately, or should be flagged for scrap review.
- Repair — Fix identified issues and log only what you actually repaired. If you replaced a bell, log bell
replacement — do not log adjacent components you did not touch.
- Tire Repairs — Flat tires and tire replacements are a high-volume repair item. Prioritize when assigned
