The Service Technician performs terminal and electrical service, equipment and system repair, maintenance, testing, and installation tasks for a variety of customers and facilities. Responsibilities include troubleshooting and repairing or replacing wiring circuits for lighting systems, computerized motor controls, programmable controllers, and other related electrical equipment, as well as electrical systems such as street lighting, parking lot illumination devices, and pump stations.
The Technician identifies and acquires parts for replacement, maintenance, and other required work in accordance with established procurement procedures, wires, connects, tests, and maintains new services or systems, and responds to scheduled or emergency situations.
- Identify and rescue problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment.
- Prepare sketches showing wiring and equipment locations, following diagrams or blueprints, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before enclosing walls, ceilings, and flooring.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications.
- Design new or modified installations to minimize material waste, provide future maintenance access, and comply with specifications, safety codes, and local electrical codes.
- Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment, or fixtures using instruments such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes.
- Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, performing physically demanding tasks while demonstrating knowledge of tools and equipment.
- Understand and follow Government/Local regulations, ordinances, and Safety Guidelines.
- At least 3–5 years of lighting and electrical experience; experience in lighting and electrical service preferred.
- Reliability and availability for Monday–Friday hours, with potential overtime and weekend work.
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Valid and current driver’s license.
- CSLT certification is a plus.
