The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for Swim Lessons Instructors at one of our aquatic facilities:

* Flat Rock Creek: 13120 W. 103rd St.

* Ad Astra Pool: 8265 Maurer Rd.

* Lenexa Rec Center: 17201 W. 87th St. Pkwy.

* Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center: 8801 Greenway Ln.

Hiring Timeline:

Applications are currently being accepted. The hiring process for Swim Lesson Instructors will begin in February 2026, with start dates in May. Applicants will be contacted starting the week of February 2 about next steps in the hiring process. Interviews will take place throughout March and April, with final selections made before the start of the season.

Schedule:

This position requires weekday, weekend, and holiday availability. Applicants will provide their availability (specific days and hours) during the application process, which will be reviewed as part of the hiring decision.

Position Summary:

The Swim Lessons Instructor leads group and private/semi-private swim lessons. This role involves teaching participants with adaptive techniques, coordinating activities, assessing progress, and completing administrative duties. Instructors help maintain a safe environment alongside the lifeguard team while fostering an engaging and inclusive learning space for all participants.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Must be at least 15 years of age.

* Ability to demonstrate the following strokes:

* Freestyle (front crawl)

* Backstroke (back crawl)

* Breaststroke

* Butterfly (with minimal proficiency)

* Side stroke

Starting rate of pay is $16.50 per hour with annual raises.

Environmental and Physical Factors:
Work is performed in and around aquatic facilities with frequent exposure to sun, wind, heat, humidity, weather conditions, and noise typical of a pool environment. Duties require standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, reaching with hands and arms, occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, have good manual dexterity, body flexibility, multi-limb coordination, and visual acuity.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
