Job SummaryAs a Foreman, you’ll take charge of the daily activities of the Maintenance-of-Way (MoW) crew, ensuring track infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards of safety and reliability. This leadership role combines hands‑on oversight with planning and problem‑solving to keep rail operations running smoothly. This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a leadership role, values safety, and enjoys working in a dynamic environment where precision and teamwork matter.
- Direct and manage MoW crews in maintenance and repair projects including performing work alongside the crew
- Coordinate with other teams to ensure organized and efficient railroad operations
- Enforce compliance with safety procedures and maintain accurate compliance records
- Monitor and support all maintenance and other costs to stay within budget
- Support the MoW department in meeting its track, signal, and capital‑projects service goals
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Full-time (40 plus hours weekly)
- Varying schedule in a 24/7 work environment that includes nights, holidays, weekends, and on‑call as needed
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Walking on uneven surfaces and climbing ladders and equipment always ensuring three points of contact
- Able to squat, bend and lift overhead with extended periods of kneeling or crouching (bending at the knees)
- Frequent lifting of equipment and tools up to 76 pounds
- At least 1 year of related work experience; past experience working outdoors is preferred
- Able to complete written forms and reports as required
- Working knowledge of equipment such as torches, hammers, jacks, and other mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic tools is a plus
- Skilled in routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting is a plus
- Able to read and interpret documents including safety rules, manuals, and regulations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
- Experience with heavy hand tools and outdoor work is a plus
- Possess situational awareness and decision‑making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus or able to obtain one if required
- RWP and EIC certification is a plus
- At least 18 years of age
- Pre‑employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
- Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre‑employment drug screening
- Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.
