Basic Function
Responsible for residential casegoods engineering & design. Responsible for engineering, and releasing freelance designer and in house details in the different stages of prototype, sample, and production, including any revisions during these stages under the direction of the Product Development Engineering Manager. This includes dining room casegoods, bedroom casegoods, occasional furniture, outdoor furniture, upholstered beds, and chairs.
Organizational RelationshipsAccountable to the Product Development Director – Casegoods and works closely with the Merchandising team & RCG Admin Assistant. Maintains contact with Lenoir sample shop manager on the progress of prototypes under their development umbrella. Also has contact with the purchasing department with the release of overseas details. Communicates directly with Engineering Manager and Merchants to ensure product quality and engineering / design details are captured.
AdditionalResponsibilities
- Stay up to date with new systems to enhance the engineering function and provide suggestions to improve the process.
- Develop selected in‑house designs and detail engineering documents.
- Communicates with RCG Engineering team concerning construction concerns and detail standards.
- Maintains a data base library of all RCG details.
- Seeks and researches new and innovative products that are feasible for use in the Company's residential products.
- Assist customer service representatives, if needed, with product questions.
- Creates documentation that is required for biannual market launches.
- Reviews product prototypes with Design Team and makes revisions and appropriate corrections on production drawings.
- Ensures all samples match detail during review process and flags discrepancies.
- Maintains adherence to a rapid development schedule and can juggle many tasks and projects at the same time.
- Attends product development meetings and ensures that all information for these meetings is current.
- Performs any other duties as assigned by the Product Development Director – Casegoods.
- 2D CAD Drafting and 3D Modeling experience is required.
- 2D AutoCAD and 3D Solid Works preferred.
- Previous experience, schooling, or combination is required.
Maintains close contact with Product Development Engineering / Merchandising team to render assistance, direction, or advice in problem areas.
Works closely with corporate personnel officers in complying with state and federal regulations and with company personnel handbook.
AuthorityThe Residential Casegoods engineer – designer is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities assigned. These actions must be in accordance with the Bernhardt policy manual and other established policies and practices; subject to the general or specific limitations as established by the Product Development Engineering Manager.
The Residential Casegoods engineer – designer must always have safety in products as a top priority and uphold the standards previously set by the Bernhardt Brand. They must maintain a high standard of conduct that is appropriate as a representative of Bernhardt.
