Tuesday through Saturday 9am – 6pm typical
SALARY
: $16.00 – $17.00 per hour, housing available
The First Hand / Stitcher is a part of a bustling, light-filled costume department constructing, pulling and altering, and repairing costumes, wigs, and crafts as needed for Shakespeare & Company’s summer productions.
- Lead the execution and completion of all aspects of costume designs in a timely manner working directly with drapers, designers, and stitchers;
- Construct and alter costumes for productions as assigned;
- Participate in fittings and consultations;
- Complete other costume shop duties as needed;
- Participate in D.E.A. training
- A strong background and preferably several years of experience in costume construction and cutting;
- Some experience with draping;
- Good organization and leadership skills;
- An inspiring, forward thinking, empathetic, and collaborative style, exhibiting an openness to many perspectives;
- A commitment to values of anti-racism and anti-oppression and personal and/or professional experiences advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility;
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team, and communicate clearly with partners, team leaders and administrative staff;
- Willingness to bring a sense of humor and flexible mindset to ever-changing situations; to respond respectfully to feedback when given; and to ask for help when needed;
- Experience in organizing, working, and communicating effectively with groups of individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences
- Completion of a COVID-19 vaccine regimen and booster, if eligible, prior to employment term.
