Position: Director of Nursing (DON)

Job Overview

Mount Carmel Care Center is a faith‑based, non‑profit long‑term care facility with 69 beds located in the Berkshires. Twice voted “Best of the Berkshires”, we are sponsored by the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm and maintain a mission‑based environment for staff and residents.

Title & Compensation

Director of Nursing Services (DON) – Registered Nurse

Salary range: $117,000–$140,000 annually, based on skills and experience. Competitive benefits, 30 days paid time off and 80% health‑insurance premium coverage.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and licensed as an RN.
  • Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
  • Experience in change management and mission‑focused leadership.
  • Minimum 2 years as a Director of Nursing.
  • Minimum 5 years in long‑term care.
Responsibilities
  • Develop nursing service objectives and performance standards.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
  • Direct, evaluate and supervise all resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
  • Assess resident care needs and assist in developing individualized care plans.
  • Report problems to the Administrator, Medical Director and conduct daily resident rounds.
  • Direct and supervise employee scheduling.
  • Recruit, conduct counseling interviews and initiate disciplinary action as necessary.
  • Prepare written performance evaluations and recommend pay, role and other HR changes.
  • Direct and implement nursing service educational programs.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of the nursing service budget.
  • Direct allocation of nursing service equipment and supplies.
  • Respond to inquiries for resident placement as assigned by the Admissions Office.
  • Coordinate resident admissions, transfers and discharges.
  • Assess resident responses to medications and treatments and make appropriate recommendations.
