The Middle School Science teacher is responsible for providing high-quality, standards-aligned science instruction using the Open Sci Ed  curriculum. This curriculum is phenomenon-based, with the teacher serving as the facilitator as students explore real‑world problems through an inquiry-based approach. It promotes critical thinking, evidence‑based reasoning, problem‑solving, and student engagement.

The teacher creates a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment aligned with Massachusetts State Standards, supporting the diverse learning needs of all students while fostering positive relationships and high expectations.

The Middle School Science Teacher collaborates with colleagues, families, and support staff to ensure all students have equitable access to grade-level content and opportunities for academic growth.

• Bachelor’s degree required
• Valid Massachusetts 5‑8 teacher license in Science
• Experience supporting students through student-centered lessons, with a focus on inquiry and phenomena-based learning
• Knowledge of the Open Sci Ed  curriculum and instructional practices
• Strong knowledge of the MA state standards and the effective teaching and learning practices that promote success for all learners, including the ability to:
  • Implement tasks that promote reasoning and problem‑solving
  • Pose purposeful questions
  • Support productive struggle in learning
  • Elicit and use evidence of student thinking
  • Use data to inform instruction and intervention
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, support staff, and science content specialists
• Experience working with special education students and English Language Learners
