5TH GRADE TEACHER

We are seeking a dedicated, culturally responsive, and collaborative 5th Grade Teacher to lead an inclusive urban classroom. The ideal candidate creates a rigorous, supportive learning environment that meets the academic, social, and emotional needs of a diverse student body—including English Language Learners (ELLs), students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and neurodivergent learners.

As a 5th-grade educator, you will play a pivotal role in guiding students through their final elementary year, building critical thinking skills, independence, and readiness for the middle school transition.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

  • Design and deliver standards-aligned, culturally relevant lessons across core subjects (ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies).
  • Utilize Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and differentiated instruction to ensure all content is accessible to diverse learning styles and ability levels.
  • Co-teach and collaborate effectively with Special Education teachers, ELL specialists, and support staff to implement accommodations and modifications.
  • Integrate technology, hands-on learning, and project-based assignments to boost engagement and critical thinking.

Inclusive Classroom Culture & Behavior Support

  • Establish a safe, welcoming, and trauma-informed classroom environment built on mutual respect and high expectations.
  • Implement School-Wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Justice practices to handle classroom management and resolve conflict.
  • Support students' Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), fostering self-advocacy, empathy, resilience, and peer collaboration.

Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction

  • Administer formative and summative assessments to track student growth and identify learning gaps.
  • Analyze data collaboratively during Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to adjust instruction and target interventions.
  • Participate actively in IEP, 504 Plan, and Response to Intervention (RTI/MTSS) meetings.

Community & Family Engagement

  • Build strong, proactive partnerships with families through open communication, family-teacher conferences, and accessible updates.
  • Demonstrate cultural competency and respect for the rich diversity of the local urban community.

Salary commensurate with related experience.
