TITLE 1 READING TEACHER

Position Overview

Northwest Elementary School is seeking a dedicated, collaborative, and student-centered Title I Reading Teacher to provide high-quality literacy intervention and support for students requiring additional reading instruction. The successful candidate will work closely with classroom teachers, special educators, English learner teachers,, and school leaders to ensure all students develop the foundational literacy skills necessary for academic success.

This position focuses on delivering evidence-based reading interventions, using assessment data to inform instruction, and supporting a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to accelerate student learning.

Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted Tier II and Tier III reading intervention to individual students and small groups.

  • Plan and deliver explicit, systematic instruction in foundational reading skills, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing.

  • Utilize assessment data (e.g., i-Ready, DIBELS, curriculum-based assessments, progress monitoring tools) to identify student needs, group students, monitor progress, and adjust instruction.

  • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers to align intervention instruction with grade-level curriculum and classroom learning.

  • Participate in MTSS, Student Support Team, PLC, and data meetings to discuss student progress and intervention planning.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate growth with families and school staff.

  • Support the implementation of evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the district's curriculum and Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.

  • Create an engaging, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment that fosters student confidence and achievement.

  • Collaborate with special education and multilingual learner staff to ensure equitable access to literacy instruction.

  • Participate in professional learning opportunities and contribute to a collaborative professional culture.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in Elementary Education and/or Reading Specialist (preferred).

  • Bachelor's degree required;
    Master's degree in Reading, Literacy, or related field preferred.

  • Experience providing reading intervention at the elementary level.

  • Knowledge of the science of reading and evidence-based literacy instruction.

  • Experience using assessment data to guide instructional decision-making.

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high expectations for all learners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a Title I school.

  • Experience implementing MTSS and progress monitoring systems.

  • Knowledge of structured literacy practices.

  • Experience supporting multilingual learners and students with disabilities.

  • Familiarity with i-Ready, DIBELS, and other literacy assessment tools.
