- Perform strategic planning for the laboratory; identify and develop departmental goals and objectives.
- Provides effective leadership in delegation, organization, and coordination in managing the daily operations of the laboratory.
- Ensure that testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
- Ensures laboratory compliance with established policies and procedures and all health and safety requirements.
- Maintains a collaborative, team relationship with all levels of hospital management, employees, and physicians to effectively contribute to the group’s achievement of goals and to help foster a positive work environment.
License/Certification/
Education:
Required:
1. Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related science field.
2. Registered MT (ASCP) or equivalent.
Preferred:
1. Master’s degree.
Experience/
Skills:
Required:
1. Minimum 7 years laboratory experience with 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
2. Must possess the interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) needed to provide effective participative leadership and for successful communication with all levels of staff.
3. Strong management skills.
Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
