Job Summary

EMPLOYER:

POSITION: BRAIDING OPERATOR.

REPORTS TO:

Shift Supervisor.

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for setting up and operating the braiding machines that cover electric wire and cables with insulating materials, such as copper strands and textile threads.

• Comply with all safety guidelines and protocols to create a safe working environment and minimize workplace hazards.
• Participate in training related to operation of machine and related paperwork, increase knowledge and awareness in order to assist in performing maintenance tasks.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Monitor the braiding process closely, making real‑time adjustments to equipment settings to maintain product quality and output efficiency.
• Conduct quality and settings checks upon starting shift and regularly throughout the shift.
• Maintain good traverse during braiding operations; use micrometer to check wire gauges.
• Change take‑up reels before they become overfilled.
• Perform minor maintenance including oiling machines and cutting loose ends of braid.
• Separate bobbins and boxes for return to vendor.
• Ensure guards and shields are over pulley gears and chain.
• Troubleshoot and resolve minor operational issues to minimize downtime.
• Notify supervisor of any issues and if items fail to meet quality standards.
• Maintain accurate production records, including product counts, machine settings, and maintenance activities, to track productivity and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Perform other similar and related duties as assigned or instructed by supervisor.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination.
• Prior on‑the‑job/hands‑on experience is a plus.
• Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work well with a team, but also be comfortable with independent projects.
• Good communication skills and patience.
• Availability to work nights and/or weekends as needed.

• The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
