We are currently seeking a 3rd shift Extrusion Team Lead at our Leominster, MA Facility. Easypak is a leading provider of thermoformed packaging solutions used in a wide range of industries and applications globally. We offer dependable, high-performing plastic packaging in a variety of industries for food, consumer goods, medical and industrial applications.
Team Management- Ensure coverage of all shifts. Coordinate breaks, vacations, and expected absences to keep the machines running according with the production plan.
- Train the operators and ensure the procedures are understood and followed.
- Meet periodically with the team and address any issues occurring on the shift.
- Assess individual team members’ performance on a periodic basis.
- Keep track and share performance results with the team.
- Daily communicate and refresh extrusion production targets and relevant information.
- Apply disciplinary actions when needed.
- Enforce company policy, especially in regards Safety, Quality and Productivity.
- Development of team members to fullest potential. Providing tools and training to increase their level of performance.
- Ensure all procedures are being safely followed.
- Continuously monitor sheet quality and machine throughput.
- Report productivity and waste generated (edge trim size, purging and rolls to grind).
- Ensure all written procedures are available to the operators. Report missing procedures to Process Engineering.
- Assist and improve processes to ensure smooth operation of the extruders.
- Troubleshoot process and equipment (communicate machine issues to maintenance).
- Document process changes and/or issues. Responsible for communicating these changes.
- Ensure the material received matches the order.
- Document the materials entering the machines (leave sample).
- Daily inventory of the materials inside the plant (regrind, bottle flake, ground purging’s, PCR, additives and others).
- Daily inventory of extrusion consumables.
- Ensure all the gaylords are weighed and properly labeled.
- Identify nonconformance materials and follow reaction procedure (must notify Process engineer immediately).
- Meet sheet specifications.
- Ensure the extruders perform at their target or maximum capacity.
- Report production to the Plant Manager.
- Reduce and eradicate extruders’ downtime (ensure continuous operations).
- Assist maintenance in scheduled PM’s and unscheduled repairs such as breakdowns.
- Must immediately notify Maintenance department of any concern or malfunction of the machines.
- Ensure all operational filters are being serviced and daily PMS are done by the operators (assist maintenance team if needed).
- Document maintenance activities within extrusion.
- In the absence of an operator, the Extrusion Lead should also run a machine.
- Make recommendations and report equipment inconsistencies.
- Continuous improvement and safety.
- Make recommendations to improve productivity.
- Make recommendations to improve team performance.
- Must attend safety committee meetings when requested.
- Make recommendations to improve processes and procedures.
- Keep the production area clean and organized following 5S practices.
- Must ensure a safe work environment, resolve safety concerns, and report to the Plant Manager any safety concerns.
- Must ensure all hygiene procedures are followed, resolve hygiene concerns within the area, and report to the Plant Manager any hygiene concerns beyond his/her ability to resolve.
- Continuously look for ways to improve the efficiency, quality, safety, and hygiene of the operation.
- Perform any activity necessary for the company to meet the needs of its customers.
Should be flexible with his/her schedule to meet production needs.
Qualifications- HS Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree is a plus.
- Five years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating thermoforming or extrusion equipment is highly desirable.
