Position SummaryThe Nursing Supervisor has the administrative responsibility for the overall coordination of nursing services during an assigned off-shift, such as evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. The Nursing Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the most efficient coordination of patient placement and patient flow, and for communicating with appropriate Nurse Managers about issues that arise in their absence. They serve as an administrative, clinical and educational resource to the patient care staff.
MajorResponsibilities
- Serve as the administrative authority responsible for the provision of quality nursing care and the smooth function of all nursing units on an assigned shift, collaborating with physicians, administrators and other patient care staff.
- Direct bed management and bed flow activities; actively manage patient flow to reduce boarding time in the ED.
- Monitor the quality of nursing services; receive reports throughout the shift.
- Perform rounds to assure efficient patient flow and high quality, safe patient care.
- Address and resolve urgent concerns and patient/family complaints; notify the appropriate Nurse Manager as necessary.
- Coordinate the smooth transition of operations during shift changes; receive and relay reports to the on-coming Nurse Supervisor.
- Ensure proper staffing; coordinate with Nurse Managers to determine optimal staff allocation; review schedules and coverage for upcoming shifts.
- Provide guidance to nursing staff for emergencies and in medical management, crisis and behavior management techniques.
- Lead action in emergencies; coordinate with engineering, maintenance and security; notify Nursing Directors or Senior Management when appropriate.
- Maintain current knowledge of trends and techniques in nursing and relevant areas; direct staff response to emergencies (e.g., severe weather, fire).
- Notify Nursing Managers of staff learning needs; assist in completing performance evaluations for nurses on assigned shift.
- Interact with electronic staffing and scheduling systems and use related electronic solutions (time/attendance, productivity, acuity modules).
- Coordinate replenishment of supplies during the shift; participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Act as a resource to staff regarding the electronic time and attendance system and function as a super-user for systems including the electronic medical record.
- Meet productivity standards and promote knowledge sharing across departments.
- Support the mission, vision and goals of Health Alliance-Clinton Hospital and model CARES values.
- Adhere to change control processes and participate in cross-training to optimize department resources.
- Ability to supervise a nursing shift at a busy community hospital with strong knowledge of nursing practices and regulatory requirements; strong problem solving, planning and organizing skills.
- Experience with computer-based nurse scheduling and standard business software (MS Office).
- Graduate of a recognized School of Nursing;
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. - 5 years of clinical nursing experience and demonstrated skill in a team-leader role; ACLS required.
- Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License.
- Department-specific competencies and age-specific measurements will be developed and maintained in the department; managers will review competencies with incumbents.

Hiring Range: $48.40 - $87.12 per hour. Final offer may vary based on candidate experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.
