Overview

Registered Nurse (RN) for the Critical Care Unit at UMass Memorial Health. Responsible for planning, delivering, and managing direct patient care using the nursing process from admission to discharge. Exemption Status:
Non‑Exempt. Hiring Range: $56.64 - $59.40. Shift: 4‑Mixed, 12 Hours.

Responsibilities
  • Utilizes the Nursing Process for delivery and management of patient care from admission to discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
  • Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
  • Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
  • Directs, supervises, coordinates, and evaluates nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
  • Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
  • Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
  • Develops, implements/coordinates, and documents education plan for patient/family/significant other.
  • Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers.
  • Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies, and operates equipment according to policy and procedure.
  • Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
  • Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth.
  • Assists in education and development of staff.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates standards of respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Qualifications

License/Certification/Education

  • Current Massachusetts licensure and registration.
  • Completion of an accredited school of nursing program.
  • BLS required for every RN unless ACLS is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.

Experience/Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
  • Department‑specific competencies and measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Work is considered medium. Position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment.
