Job Description

Acts as the administrative support to the County Attorney; performs a wide variety of complex tasks to facilitate efficient and effective running of the department; performs other duties as assigned. The hiring salary for this position is $66.102 annually; full salary range for this position is $66,102 - $113,734 annually.

Essential Functions
  • Provides primary and direct administrative support to the Volunteer Boards, Committees and Commissions program comprised of approximately 37+ active boards;
  • Interacts directly with citizens and community members and provides information pertaining to the Boards, Committees and Commissions.
  • Meets with the Commissioners of St. Mary's County on a quarterly basis to discuss board appointments;
  • Provides support to the County Attorney;
  • Prepares correspondence, memorandum, and reports;
  • Maintains databases and database files;
  • Maintains confidential employee records;
  • Performs payroll and personnel related functions for the department;
  • Performs accounts payable responsibilities for the department and maintains fiscal records;
  • Responsible for the annual departmental budget process;
  • Supervises the Senior Office Specialist;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary's County Government policies and procedures;
  • Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary's County Government to the public;
  • Ability to gain expert knowledge of department practices and procedures;
  • Ability to read and comprehend relevant documents associated with department operations;
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members; ability to coordinate, advise, and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals;
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the department;
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask;
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks accurately and in a timely fashion;
  • Ability use available resources to research information;
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records;
  • Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and simple office machines.
  • Ability to use Clio case management software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.
Education and Experience
  • Associate's Degree;
  • Five years related professional experience in executive and office administration support, with three years in a supervisory level position;
  • Or equivalent technical training, education, and/or experience.

Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls.
