Speech Language Pathologist
NATURE OF WORKThis is a professional position to meet the individual needs of students through direct service and consultation to staff and families to support communication development and/or progress in the general education curriculum.

- Ability to communicate orally or in writing, courteously and tactfully, with staff, students, parents, and the community in a timely manner
- Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to take initiative and make decisions within assigned responsibility in a challenging, fast-paced professional environment and be flexible in work responsibilities and hours
- Possess knowledge of the programs, policies, and procedures of the St. Mary’s County Public Schools
- Ability to assess and evaluate student language learning needs
- Ability to develop long- and short-term learning goals and instructional supports
- Diagnoses student speech, language, and other communicative disorders through analysis of test results, observation, teacher consultation, and information from parents
- Writes assessment reports to effectively communicate results to failies
- Develops and implements IFSP/IEP for students with speech/language impairments
- Consults with/coach teachers and parents regarding the various aspects of speech/language skills development and their impact on achievement
- Collaborates with staff and families to support the development of communication skills
- Serves as a resource person to families/school personnel in the development and selection of materials to address the needs of students in communication skills development
- Conducts work I schools, homes and community-based settings
- Maintains data on students in speech/language therapy
- Participates in IFSP/IEP team meetings for students having speech/language impairments
- Provides cohesive, well-planned lessons to address speech and language needs of students as they relate to the general education curriculum
- Supports parents/teachers in a coaching model to address ongoing language learning
- Completes transition assessments for children transitioning from Infants and Toddlers
- Completes logs for attendance and Medical Assistance
- Maintains individual student data to measure progress on IFSP/IEP goals and objectives
- Supports parents/teachers in a coaching model to address ongoing language learning
- Performs other related and nonrelated job duties as assigned
Required:
- Master’s degree in speech pathology
- Must hold current Maryland License issued by the Board of Examiners or hold an historic credential issued by the Maryland State Department of Education for Speech Pathology.
Full-time ten-month position
SALARY GRADE RANGEThe salary for this EXEMPT position will be based on EASMC Specialist Career Ladder for ten-month employees.
