Overview
Join us and make an impact! The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is seeking a tenure‑track faculty member in Communication at our Leonardtown campus. The candidate will teach courses such as Intercultural Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Communication Theory, Public Speaking, and Basic Principles of Speech Communication and will engage students through innovative instructional delivery approaches.
Responsibilities- Teach thirty credits of courses per contract year in the Communication discipline.
- Teach a range of courses that may include morning, day, evening, weekend, or online. Classes may be taught in both 7‑ and 15‑week terms. Opportunities may exist to teach in the summer session outside the 30‑credit load.
- This position’s primary campus assignment will be in Leonardtown, although teaching or other activities may occur on other CSM campuses.
- Engage students in their learning through active and collaborative learning approaches.
- Meet with students outside of class to assist them with being successful college students.
- Incorporate culturally relevant pedagogies into the teaching and learning process.
- Demonstrate ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate ability to read and interpret information.
- Demonstrate ability to deliver instruction to students from various backgrounds, with varied levels of learning and preparation.
- Employ student engagement strategies that support completion and student success goals.
- Provide constructive feedback that students can use to improve their performance.
- Maintain an ongoing program of professional development and participate in professional organizations, workshops, seminars, conferences, and related activities.
- Demonstrate mastery of appropriate computer operation skills.
- Master’s degree in Communication
- One year of instructional experience at the post‑secondary level, including teaching courses, managing learning experiences, evaluating student achievement, contributing to curriculum development, policy and procedure formulation, and assessing program effectiveness, preferably at the community college level.
- Ability to use word processing, basic Internet applications, and basic database navigation.
- Proficiency in an educational enterprise and learning management system such as Brightspace or Desire 2 Learn to support and facilitate instructional delivery.
- Ability to teach in face‑to‑face, web, web‑hybrid, and hy‑flex formats.
