Intervention Teacher
This temporary, hourly instructional position is designed to support the literacy and/or mathematics needs of identified students through targeted intervention services. The position is funded by a grant administered by the Office of Title I and Family Engagement and functions under the direct supervision of the school principal. The intervention teacher is responsible for providing direct instruction and supporting the academic achievement of students requiring supplemental assistance.
EssentialFunctions
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, students, and community members.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and school-related information.
- Use technology effectively to support instruction and complete assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate reliability and punctuality by reporting to work consistently and on time.
- Prioritize, organize, and complete tasks efficiently and independently.
- Follow oral and written instructions, including complex directives, with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally—both orally and in writing—with staff, students, and parents.
- Manage time effectively, demonstrate initiative, and adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic educational environment.
- Maintain working knowledge of St. Mary's County Public Schools policies, procedures, and instructional programs.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate instructional experiences aligned with academic goals and student needs.
- Provide educational guidance that supports students' overall development and well-being.
- Provide direct instruction and intervention services to identified students on a regular basis.
- Administer assessments and analyze data to identify students' academic strengths and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement evidence-based instructional strategies informed by assessment data.
- Collaborate with the school's literacy point of contact and instructional resource staff to plan, coordinate, and refine instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and assessment outcomes.
- Supervise students during instructional periods and on school property as required.
- Assist in the implementation and continuous improvement of the intervention program in partnership with school staff.
- Build and sustain positive, productive relationships with students and school personnel.
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with families to support student growth.
- Ensure the proper care, use, and accountability of school materials and property.
- Complete required documentation and submit reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.
Required:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Preferred:
- Valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Teacher Certification
- Experience in early childhood education
- Prior experience working in Title I programs
- Background in instructional intervention or classroom teaching
