Nature of Work

The Building Service Worker primarily provides operational support during evening hours to ensure a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment for students. The position also delivers consistent, proactive customer service to students, faculty, and the school community. Scheduling varies by site.

  • Climbing ladders up to 15 feet high.
  • Using and carrying backpack and hip‑mounted vacuum cleaners weighing up to 20 pounds for extended periods.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Full range of custodial tasks: sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, heavy floor‑machine use for stripping and waxing, vacuuming carpets, and carpet cleaning.
  • Lifting and moving heavy objects and performing manual labor.
  • Collecting trash and debris, disposing in dumpster for removal.
  • Cleaning and servicing sinks, restrooms, dusting furniture, chalkboards, blinds, ventilators, registers, vents, light fixtures, doors, glass windows, mirrors, and polishing metal fixtures.
  • Replacing light bulbs and ceiling tiles.
  • Moving and setting up furniture to support school functions.
  • Participating in the team cleaning site plan provided by the Building Service Manager.
  • Providing support for after‑hour activities by school and community groups.
  • Reporting maintenance or facility problems to the Building Service Manager.
  • Knowledge of proper use, care, maintenance, and storage of all custodial equipment.
  • Performing other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Fingerprinting and successful criminal history background check.
  • Employee history verification authorization.
  • Vector Training video completion.
  • Reliable transportation to/from work.
  • Physical requirements:

    lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently; stand/walk on tile and/or concrete for extended periods; carry backpack/hip‑mounted vacuum cleaners weighing up to 20 pounds for extended periods; climb ladders up to 15 feet high.

Preferred

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 6 months of experience in cleaning school or business facilities.
