Position: Substitute - Food Service Worker
Location: Food and Nutrition Services/Various Sites
Salary: The salary will be based on an hourly rate of $15.00.
Effective: September 2025

NATURE OF WORK:
Performs a variety of tasks related to food production and food service in a fast‑paced environment under the direction of the food service manager. The work requires a substantial amount of physical dexterity, can be repetitive, and requires prolonged standing. Food Service Workers are provided on‑the‑job training and are expected to become proficient in accomplishing required duties during a six‑month probationary period.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to professionally relate to and collaborate with co‑workers, students, and community members
- Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to use technology effectively to complete tasks
- Ability to report to work daily and on time
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions
- Ability to lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
- Possess effective organizational skills
- Possess effective oral communication skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cooks and prepares bulk quantities of food items
- Sets up serving lines and serves food items on the line
- Operates a computerized point-of-sale system
- Operates a dishwasher
- Washes pots and pans in a three‑compartment sink
- Cleans and sanitizes food service equipment and associated spaces
- Maintains high‑quality food preparation and the highest caliber of customer service
- Works effectively with others as part of a team
- Coordinates with other school staff in support of the recycling program
- Participates in promotions of new food items and nutrition education activities
- Fills in for the manager, after proficiency is demonstrated
- Performs other related and non‑related job duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Must be physically able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds
Preferred:
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience in a commercial food service environment
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Temporary/hourly position
Salary Grade Range:
The salary will be based on an hourly rate of $15.00.
Bargaining Unit Eligibility: Not eligible.
