Electrician

Electricians have a wide range of responsibilities. They review blueprints, diagrams and building and electrical codes to determine wiring layouts. Based on these layouts, electricians assemble and install conduit, armored cable, wiring systems and other types of electrical conductor enclosures and fittings. They also maintain and operate distribution and control equipment including relays, switches, circuit breaker panels and fuse enclosures. If there are any issues with the distribution and control systems, electricians are responsible for identifying and repairing the problem.

They also analyze performance and implement preventive maintenance.

Electricians are responsible for maintaining databases and other administrative tracking. They assist in the designing and relocating of systems for renovations. Finally, they ensure there is adequate inventory of materials.

Electricians are located in a number of different facilities including hospitals, medical centres and continuing care facilities. They may work full‑time or part‑time hours. Shift schedules may include a combination of day, evening and weekend shifts.

Electricians are on their feet or standing for much of their shift. They may be required to bend, reach, lift and move heavy equipment and supplies. They must carry out their duties with great care and precision, in accordance with established safety standards.
