SMS Equipment hiring a Resident Heavy Equipment Technician in the Lethbridge area. This field-based role is ideal for a skilled Heavy Duty Mechanic who values the freedom to work independently from a company-provided service truck. You’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain some of the largest, most advanced equipment in the industry. If you’re safety-focused, resourceful, and take pride in owning your work from start to finish, this role offers real autonomy while being backed by the largest Komatsu dealer in North America.
Base Wage: $54.82 per hour (with an increase to $57.43 after 1 year of continuous service). Additional premiums and allowances may apply.
Location:
Lethbridge, AB and surrounding area.
The home branch for this role is Calgary, AB.
Schedule:
5x2
- Perform assemblies, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete overhauls on heavy equipment.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized or other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
- Make recommendations regarding extent of repairs and suggest methods of improvement.
- Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
- Complete job‑specific reports and paperwork as needed.
- Work safely in challenging environments, including confined spaces, lifting up to 50 lbs, and remote work in adverse weather conditions.
The successful candidate will have certification as Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician. Other requirements include:
- Strong commitment to safety and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment;
Komatsu experience is an asset. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort interacting directly with customers and on‑site contacts.
- Valid Class 5/G driver’s license.
- Experience with warranty processes and documenting repairs is an asset.
- Interprovincial Red Seal is an asset.
