The University of Lethbridge is seeking a full‑time, continuing position as an Electrician. This position maintains a safe, stable, and comfortable learning, living and working environment on campus. The core duties involve the operation and maintenance of the entire electrical system on campus, including emergency and life safety systems. The role requires a high degree of self‑reliance, team coordination, and extensive knowledge of practical electrical applications, theory, and code.

The electrician must be comfortable making autonomous technical decisions that can impact the campus electrical system, research, and life safety, particularly during stressful or time‑constrained periods. The electrical team is composed of five electricians who rotate for regular and standby (after‑hours) duties to ensure a response to issues at all hours of the day.

• Minimum grade 12 education and an Alberta Journeyman Electrical Certificate or an out‑of‑province Red Seal designation.
• At least 6 years of relevant experience in an industrial and institutional maintenance setting, achieved through a combination of apprenticeship and journeyman positions. Master Electrician certification and additional years of experience are considered assets.
• Experience with variable frequency drives, co‑generation systems, 15 kV power distribution systems, medium‑voltage switching, SCADA, lighting control systems, security access systems, low‑voltage controls, UPS systems, and a strong knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code. Experience with line locates and thermography are considered assets.
• Certificates in WHMIS, Personal Fall Protection, Mobile Elevating Work Platform, Arc Flash, and High Voltage Safety.
• Valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than six demerits and a current motor vehicle record dated within three months of application.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE): $5,782.00 – $6,545.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE – AUPE Grade 12): $5,782.00 – $7,308.00 monthly
