South Plains College is seeking a qualified and motivated Dental Hygiene Instructor to provide high-quality instruction in both classroom and clinical settings. The successful candidate will be responsible for educating and mentoring students in accordance with Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards while supporting the mission and values of the College. This individual cooperates with the program director in periodic review and revision of course materials, objectives, and outcomes for this program.
This is a tenure track position.
- Teach didactic, laboratory, and/or clinical dental hygiene courses as assigned by Program Director, Department Chair, and/or Dean
- Develop, revise, and implement course syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials
- Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic and clinical records
- Supervise students in clinical settings, ensuring patient safety and ethical care
- Participate in curriculum development, faculty calibration, and program assessment activities
- Maintain compliance with CODA, state, and institutional regulations
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and college service
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and clinical personnel to ensure consistency and program effectiveness
- Participate in student advisement and program recruitment
- Carry out all assigned duties as determined by the Program Director and administration of the institution
- Provide input and assistance for the Program Director during the budget process.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene or related field
- Current Texas dental hygiene license (graduated from a CODA-accredited program)
- Minimum of five years of clinical dental hygiene experience
- Documented background in current educational methodology concepts
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to student success, diversity, and academic excellence
- Master’s degree in Dental Hygiene or related field
- Teaching experience or formal training in education preferred
- Previous teaching experience in a CODA-accredited program
- Experience with clinical instruction and assessment
- Familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems
