Position Summary:

The instructor conducts college courses for undergraduate students primarily at the Levelland Campus, with potential assignments at other South Plains College campuses or centers. Duties include instruction of credit courses as well as Workforce Development/Continuing Education courses.

• Instruct CIS credit and/or Workforce Development/Continuing Education Unit courses following the prescribed curriculum, including academic lecture, hands‑on lab skills, and online supplementation.
• Prepare lecture, lesson plans, and syllabi; conduct instruction in classes and labs; maintain official class records, grade rolls, and grade reports; report drops to registrar; prepare and proctor tests.
• Deliver effective lecture and lab presentations; facilitate student discussions to encourage goal achievement.
• Provide counseling and advising to students; communicate grading procedures and coursework expectations at the beginning of the semester; grade consistently and equitably.
• Develop and implement strategies to retain students through advising, engagement with community businesses, and emphasis of soft skills.
• Keep students informed of academic progress, potential issues, and provide tutoring as needed; coordinate with student services for welfare matters.
• Serve on faculty committees, organizations, and activities as assigned; familiarize with administrative policies.
• Recruit new students via presentations at high schools and alternative programs.
• Participate in college functions, activities, and committees; act as a program advisor and positive role model.
• Maintain a 35‑hour work week on an on‑site schedule.
• Keep teaching methods current and demonstrate mastery of technology in assigned disciplines.
• Assist in recruiting industry advisory committee members as needed.
• Represent the South Plains College Technical Education Division and Business Administration/CIS department professionally, internally and externally.
• Adhere to additional duties as assigned by the president or administration.

• Associate’s degree in Computer Information Systems required.
• Demonstrated competencies in programming, cyber security/security management, networking hardware, PC/server hardware, and PC operating systems (Windows 10/11).
• Preferred industry certifications in programming, security, networking, or system administration.
• Strong language skills: reading, writing, and presenting professional technical material; effective communication with students, industry representatives, and the public.
• Mathematical ability to calculate figures related to program budget, lecture preparation, and instruction.
• Reasoning ability to solve practical problems with multiple variables and interpret instructions in various forms.
• Physical capacity to talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift up to 25 pounds; proficiency in close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.
• Awareness of work environment characteristics and typical business‑setting noise level.
