Job Description
SUMMARY
Responsible for supporting a healthcare simulations laboratory learning environment based on contemporary best practices, leading edge technology and the testing of new approaches. Will collaborate with the Clinical Coordinator and work with the faculty to support students skills acquisition, deliberative practice, and simulation-based education activities in the Reese Center for Clinical Excellence..
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Simulation and skills related:
Prepare and maintain clinical laboratory and simulation environments with extreme attention to detail including props and moulage;
Set-up, reset, and take-down simulation, deliberative practice, remediation, and testing environments;
Orient faculty, staff and students to simulation manikins, equipment, and technology;
Support faculty and staff during planning and running of laboratory and/or simulation-based education activities to improve competencies and in meeting course objectives;
Assist students and faculty with use of technology (simulators, computers, and audio-visual equipment);
Operate simulators according to scenario guides and activity specifications;
Demonstrate application of simulation-based education best practices;
Contribute to development and refinement of simulation-based activities;
Provide remediation support to students according to faculty specifications and communicate student’s progress per nursing policies.
Inventory and maintenance related:
Participate in efficient and cost-effective management of consumable supplies, durable resources, and manikin maintenance including minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and general cleanliness to ensure all equipment and simulators are in good working condition;
Assist in maintaining organized ongoing supply inventory and stocking supplies to support the learning activities in the clinical center;
Restock, organize, and maintain supply areas and carts.
Other:
Support development and refinement of processes, policies and procedures for the Center of Clinical Excellence;
Utilize software, applications, and databases as directed;
Support orientation and mentoring of new faculty and staff;
Assist with tours and events for a variety of groups and organizations;
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, the Simulation Nurse must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Simulation Nurse must have experience in working with or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Master’s Degree in Nursing required and demonstrated current clinical expertise to function effectively and safely in the designated area of teaching;
Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas;
American Heart Association BLS certification (current);
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
