Transportation Maintenance Tech I-III — Levelland, TX. TxDOT’s Levelland Maintenance Section seeks a Transportation Main Tech I-III to work out of the Levelland Maintenance Office. The team focuses on pavement scores and road maintenance and is recognized as a model within the district.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support: roadway maintenance and repair; operation of light and heavy equipment; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and assisting the public during emergencies.
  • Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding; uses/moves equipment and materials related to these activities.
  • Assists with traffic control: places and gathers cones, warning signs, and barricades; flags traffic; determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices; inspects barricades for compliance.
  • Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites; maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards, and restrooms; cleans litter and debris; mows rights-of-way and performs landscaping tasks.
  • Operates light equipment (e.g., front-end loader, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, mower) and performs PMI, routine servicing and minor repairs; completes required reports (timekeeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, PMI).
  • Assists with inspections for maintenance contracts, supports emergency operations, and responds to incidents as needed.
Experience and Education
  • TMT I:
    No experience required
  • TMT II: 1 year of experience
  • TMT III: 2 years of experience
  • * Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work. Substitutions for minimum qualifications may apply with related technical training or education.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license at time of application; position requires driving a state vehicle
  • Commercial Class A Driver’s License with an N endorsement or CDL A within 120 calendar days from date of employment
  • U.S. Military CDL equivalency considerations: candidates may need to obtain Texas Class A CDL within 120 days of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Commercial Driver’s License
  • The following competencies apply to Transportation Maintenance Tech I– knowledge of intermodal transportation construction and maintenance, inspection methods, materials, safety standards, and maintenance concepts; skills in using computers, tools, and equipment; ability to follow instructions
  • Additional competencies for Tech II include inspection methods, basic vehicle maintenance, coordinating labor, materials, and equipment, prioritizing work, and using computer systems
  • Additional competencies for Tech III include advanced knowledge of intermodal construction, plans, specifications, and estimating; proficiency in public relations and operation of light/heavy equipment
