The starting pay range for this position per hour is $25.75 - $27.75. The full pay range for this position per hour is $25.75 - $43.75.

Pay is based on several factors that vary by position, including labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.

All About General Merchandise

Experts of operations, process, and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is merchandised, priced, and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. The team also leads Food & Beverage and Food Service, providing a fresh and food‑safe experience.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by owning pick, pack, and ship fulfillment work. The Inbound team is responsible for unloading trailer deliveries and preparing merchandise for stocking on the sales floor.

Skills
  • Guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest‑first culture on your team
  • Retail business fundamentals, including department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing, and promotion strategies
  • Planning department(s) daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver sales goals
  • Leading a team of hourly team members, including interviewing, developing, coaching, evaluating, and retaining talent
Responsibilities
  • Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an Easy, Inspiring, and Friendly guest experience.
  • Ensure every team member understands, is trained, and consistently delivers on Target’s guest experience commitments and consistent operations.
  • Actively observe and provide feedback, holding team members accountable while recognizing great guest experience moments.
  • Review area guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, take action to improve, and align team on the right behaviors and execution.
  • Understand sales goals and plans, and execute daily/weekly workload to deliver department and store sales goals and guest engagement.
  • Lead and share expertise in operations, freshness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • With guidance from your direct leader, establish clear goals and expectations and hold team members accountable to expectations.
  • Use workload planning tools to complete all scheduled workload ensuring areas are guest ready at store open.
  • Assign daily tasks to team members based on planned workload and guest traffic patterns, ensuring alignment with weekly and monthly business priorities set by your direct leader.
  • Assess all GM backroom and sales floor areas and review reporting to identify gaps and develop a plan to resolve issues.
  • Ensure product is available for purchase to provide a consistent experience for our guests.
  • Assist your direct leader in leading and following up on organizational and operational change.
  • Build a team of GM experts from initial selection through onboarding and learning, and develop team members through ongoing training and direction.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches, being authentic and respectful, and creating equitable experiences.
  • Lead a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance; hold team members accountable to these commitments.
  • Model a safety culture by recognizing safe behaviors, correcting hazards, and reporting injuries timely and accurately.
