The Role and

Key Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Police officers to become controllers and work as part of the team within FCCCD.

PC Controllers within the Force Contact Command and Control Department are responsible for the initial command and control of Sussex Police’s response to incidents. This vital role includes taking 999 calls, appropriately resourcing and resolving incidents reported to Sussex Police, and continuously assessing Threat, Harm, and Risk. Controllers prioritise and review incidents in line with available resources, ensuring officer safety and compliance with Force policy while making timely, informed decisions in a fast‑paced environment.

This is a great opportunity for officers to apply their policing skills to this role to support their colleagues, managing resources and getting the right units to the right incidents.

Officers should also see this as a great opportunity to learn new skills, have a greater appreciation and understanding of how the Force operates and to be involved in Force Operations.

The role is based at Sussex Police Headquarters in Lewes but may require working from catchment sites including Gatwick and Brighton.

You will be required to work a 24/7 shift pattern – 4 days on followed by 4 days off.

We welcome applications and discussion with candidates who want to work full‑time or part‑time/flexible hours.

Officers must have completed a minimum of 3 years service to be eligible to apply.

A full training package is being developed to ensure you receive everything you need prior to starting in the room.
