Responsibilities- Inpatient Admissions: Evaluate and admit patients from the Emergency Department (ED) and other facilities, formulating initial diagnosis and treatment plans.
- Clinical Management: Provide direct patient care, including prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and managing acute changes in patient status.
- Emergency Response: Lead or participate in Rapid Response and Code Blue teams as the primary overnight responder.
- Medical Supervision: Supervise residents, medical students, and Advanced Practice Clinicians (APCs) during nighttime clinical activities.
- Transitions of Care: Conduct thorough handoffs to daytime teams to ensure continuity and safety in patient care.
- Consultative Services: Provide medical consultations for specialty services (e.g., surgical or psychiatric units) as requested.
- Schedule: 7‑on / 14‑off block schedule - 12‑hour shifts 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
- Education: Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
- Training: Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
. - Licensure: Valid, unrestricted state medical license and current DEA registration.
- Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
- Certifications: Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Clinical Independence: Ability to make critical clinical decisions and manage complex cases with limited immediate specialty support.
- Procedural
Skills:
Competence in or willingness to learn procedures such as central line placement and intubation is often preferred. - Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills for coordinating with the ED, daytime hospitalists, and patient families.
- Efficiency: Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to manage high‑volume overnight admissions and acute floor issues.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution.
